Analyzing the beliefs and traditions in the Bai Sri Su Khwan ceremony from an ethical perspective

Abstract

Analyze the beliefs in the Bai Sri Su Kwan ceremony according to ethics is a qualitative research study with three main objectives: 1) to study the beliefs in the Bai Sri Su Khwan ceremony, 2) to study the related ethical principles, and 3) to analyze these beliefs according to ethics. Data was collected from primary and secondary sources such as Buddhist scriptures, local literature, and related research. The research findings revealed: 1. The core belief in the Bai Sri Su Khwan ceremony is based on “Khwan” (spirit/soul), which refers to life force and mental stability. The ceremony is a process of calling the spirit back to the body to create balance between body and spirit. 2. From an ethical perspective, the ceremony deeply integrates Buddhist ethics, including the Five Precepts, gratitude, the Four Sublime States (Brahma Vihara), and the Four Principles of Social Harmony (Sanghahavattu), which are reflected in the symbols in the Bai Sri offering tray and the chants for calling the spirit back. 3. The ethical analysis indicates that the Bai Sri Su Khwan ceremony functions as... “The ‘cultural ethical system’ plays a crucial role at three levels: at the individual level, it helps restore consciousness and awareness; at the community level, it creates ethical bonds and unity through participation; and at the societal level, it helps maintain universal order and virtues. Therefore, this ritual is not merely a belief in auspiciousness, but a strategy for cultivating virtues such as gratitude, compassion, and social responsibility, ensuring their sustainable transmission from generation to generation.

การวิจัยเรื่อง “วิเคราะห์คติความเชื่อในพิธีบายศรีสู่ขวัญตามแนวจริยศาสตร์” เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพที่มีวัตถุประสงค์หลัก 3 ประการ คือ 1) เพื่อศึกษาคติความเชื่อในพิธีบายศรีสู่ขวัญ 2) เพื่อศึกษาหลักจริยศาสตร์ที่เกี่ยวข้อง และ 3) เพื่อวิเคราะห์คติความเชื่อดังกล่าวตามแนวจริยศาสตร์ โดยรวบรวมข้อมูลจากเอกสารปฐมภูมิและทุติยภูมิ เช่น คัมภีร์ทางพระพุทธศาสนา วรรณกรรมท้องถิ่น และงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้อง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า: 1. คติความเชื่อหลักในพิธีบายศรีสู่ขวัญยึดถือเรื่อง “ขวัญ” เป็นแกนกลาง ซึ่งหมายถึงพลังชีวิตและความมั่นคงทางจิตใจ การจัดพิธีเป็นกระบวนการเรียกจิตให้กลับมาอยู่กับตัวเพื่อสร้างสมดุลระหว่างร่างกายและจิตวิญญาณ 2. ด้านหลักจริยศาสตร์ พิธีนี้มีการบูรณาการหลักพุทธจริยศาสตร์อย่างลึกซึ้ง ทั้งหลักศีล 5, กตัญญูกตเวที, พรหมวิหาร 4 และสังคหวัตถุ 4 ซึ่งสะท้อนผ่านสัญลักษณ์ในพานบายศรีและบทสวดเรียกขวัญ 3. ผลการวิเคราะห์ตามแนวจริยศาสตร์ชี้ให้เห็นว่า พิธีบายศรีสู่ขวัญทำหน้าที่เป็น “ระบบจริยศาสตร์ทางวัฒนธรรม” ที่มีบทบาทสำคัญ 3 ระดับ คือ ระดับปัจเจกช่วยฟื้นฟูจิตสำนึกและสติสัมปชัญญะ ระดับชุมชนสร้างพันธะทางจริยธรรมและความสามัคคีผ่านการมีส่วนร่วม และระดับสังคมช่วยธำรงระเบียบและคุณธรรมสากล พิธีกรรมนี้จึงมิใช่เพียงความเชื่อเรื่องมงคล แต่เป็นกุศโลบายในการปลูกฝังคุณธรรมเรื่องความกตัญญู ความเมตตา และความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมให้สืบทอดจากรุ่นสู่รุ่นได้อย่างยั่งยืน
