INTEGRATING THE VALUES OF THE SAN TON TA TRADITION THAT INFLUENCE THE WAY OF LIFE OF PEOPLE IN SURIN PROVINCE

Abstract

This thesis aims to: 1) study the livelihoods of the people of Surin Province; 2) examine the value of the San Ton Ta tradition; 3) integrate the values of the San Ton Ta tradition and its influence on the lives of the people of Surin Province; and 4) gain knowledge about the integration of the values of the San Ton Ta tradition and its influence on the lives of the people of Surin Province. This qualitative research utilized document analysis and related research. Fieldwork was conducted through in-depth interviews with 20 experts. The data were analyzed, synthesized, and presented descriptively. The results of the study revealed: 1. The Livelihoods of the People of Surin Province: Surin people live a life tied to agriculture, particularly rice farming, elephant raising, and silk weaving, which are traditionally their primary occupations. This, coupled with their adherence to local traditions and culture, such as the San Ton Ta and elephant ordination, reflect their faith in Buddhism and respect for nature. This simple, generous, and harmonious lifestyle has enabled the local society to maintain its identity and community. 2. The value of the San Ton Ta tradition symbolizes gratitude to ancestors and adherence to religious virtues. It also serves as a forum for building unity and ties within families and communities. It also reflects the cultural identity of Surin people and helps preserve local wisdom for a sustainable future. 3. Integrating the values of the Sandonta tradition, which influences the lives of people in Surin Province. The Sandonta tradition is an important tradition of Surin people, expressing gratitude to ancestors and their faith in Buddhism. The ceremony instills a sense of morality, such as compassion, sacrifice, and generosity. It also serves as a mechanism for building strong family ties and community unity. People learn to preserve traditions, culture, and local wisdom. Sandonta also reflects a way of life tied to beliefs and mutual support. These values help Surin people live a balanced life, both mentally and socially. Therefore, this tradition has a significant influence on shaping the way of life and identity of Surin people in a sustainable way. 4. New knowledge has been developed, called the "E.S.C.S. MODEL." The E = Ethical Dimension refers to ethical traditions that instill in people an awareness of the value of gratitude, respect for elders, and adherence to goodness. S = Social Dimension refers to the social dimension that promotes unity. Support and maintenance of strong family and community relationships; C = Cultural Dimension, referring to the cultural aspect that encourages people to proudly preserve traditions, arts, languages, and local wisdom; and S = Spiritual Dimension, referring to the spiritual aspect, which is tradition and spiritual power that creates peace, compassion, and strength of faith in life.

ดุษฎีนิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาสภาพการดำเนินชีวิตของประชาชนจังหวัดสุรินทร์ 2) เพื่อศึกษาคุณค่าของประเพณีแซนโฏนตา 3) เพื่อบูรณาการคุณค่าประเพณีแซนโฎนตาที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการดำเนินชีวิตประชาชนในจังหวัดสุรินทร์ และ 4) เพื่อได้องค์ความรู้เกี่ยวกับบูรณาการคุณค่าประเพณีแซนโฎนตาที่มีอิทธิพลต่อประชาชนในจังหวัดสุรินทร์ เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลจากเอกสารและงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องเป็นหลัก ผู้วิจัยมีการเก็บข้อมูลภาคสนาม โดยการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึกผู้เชี่ยวชาญ จำนวน 20 รูป/คน แล้วนำข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์สังเคราะห์แล้วนำเสนอในเชิงพรรณนา ผลการวิจัยพบว่า : 1. สภาพการดำเนินชีวิตของประชาชนในจังหวัดสุรินทร์ประชาชนจังหวัดสุรินทร์มีวิถีชีวิตที่ผูกพันกับเกษตรกรรม โดยเฉพาะการทำนา เลี้ยงช้าง และการทอผ้าไหมที่สืบทอดกันมาเป็นอาชีพหลัก ควบคู่กับการยึดมั่นในประเพณีและวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น เช่น แซนโฎนตา และการบวชช้าง ซึ่งสะท้อนความศรัทธาในพุทธศาสนาและความเคารพต่อธรรมชาติ วิถีชีวิตเรียบง่าย เอื้อเฟื้อ และสามัคคี ทำให้สังคมท้องถิ่นยังคงรักษาเอกลักษณ์และความเป็นชุมชนไว้อย่างมั่นคง 2. คุณค่าของประเพณีแซนโฎนตา เป็นสัญลักษณ์แห่งความกตัญญูต่อบรรพบุรุษและการยึดมั่นในคุณธรรมทางศาสนา อีกทั้งยังเป็นเวทีสร้างความสามัคคีและสายใยสัมพันธ์ในครอบครัวและชุมชน นอกจากนี้ยังสะท้อนอัตลักษณ์ทางวัฒนธรรมของชาวสุรินทร์ และช่วยสืบสานภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่นให้คงอยู่สืบไปอย่างยั่งยืน 3. บูรณาการคุณค่าประเพณีแซนโฎนตาที่มีอิทธิพลต่อการดำเนินชีวิตประชาชนในจังหวัดสุรินทร์ ประเพณีแซนโฎนตาเป็นประเพณีสำคัญของชาวสุรินทร์ที่แสดงออกถึงความกตัญญูต่อบรรพบุรุษและความศรัทธาในพระพุทธศาสนา การประกอบพิธีทำให้ประชาชนเกิดความสำนึกในคุณธรรม เช่น ความเมตตา ความเสียสละ และความเอื้อเฟื้อเผื่อแผ่ ยังเป็นกลไกสร้างความสัมพันธ์อันแน่นแฟ้นในครอบครัวและความสามัคคีในชุมชน ประชาชนได้เรียนรู้การอนุรักษ์ขนบธรรมเนียม วัฒนธรรม และภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่น แซนโฎนตายังสะท้อนวิถีชีวิตที่ผูกพันกับความเชื่อและการเกื้อกูลซึ่งกันและกัน คุณค่าดังกล่าวช่วยให้ชาวสุรินทร์ดำรงชีวิตอย่างสมดุลทั้งด้านจิตใจ สังคม และวัฒนธรรม จึงนับได้ว่าประเพณีนี้มีอิทธิพลสำคัญต่อการหล่อหลอมวิถีชีวิตและอัตลักษณ์ของประชาชนสุรินทร์อย่างยั่งยืน 4. องค์ความรู้ใหม่ที่ได้เรียกว่า “E.S.C.S. MODEL” โมเดล E = Ethical Dimension หมายถึง ประเพณีด้านจริยธรรมได้ปลูกฝังให้ประชาชนตระหนักถึงคุณค่าของการตอบแทนบุญคุณ การเคารพผู้ใหญ่ และการยึดมั่นในความดีงาม, S = Social Dimension หมายถึง ด้านสังคมช่วยเสริมสร้างความสามัคคี การช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูล และการรักษาความสัมพันธ์ที่แน่นแฟ้นในครอบครัวและชุมช, C = Cultural Dimension หมายถึง ด้านวัฒนธรรมที่ส่งเสริมให้ประชาชนอนุรักษ์ประเพณี ศิลปะ ภาษา และภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่นอย่างภาคภูมิใจ และ S = Spiritual Dimension หมายถึง ด้านจิตวิญญาณเป็นประเพณีเป็นพลังทางใจที่ทำให้เกิดความสงบสุข เมตตา และความเข้มแข็งทางศรัทธาในการดำรงชีวิต
