THE INTEGRATION OF THERAVADA BUDDHIST PHILOSOPHY IN THE SONG OF SALA KHUNAWUT THAT INFLUENCED THAI SOCIETY

Abstract

This dissertation aims to: 1) Study the life and musical works of Sala Khunawut. 2) Study the principles of Theravada Buddhist philosophy in Sala Khunawut songs. 3) Integrate Theravada Buddhist philosophy in Sala Khunawut songs and their influence on Thai society. and 4) Gain knowledge about the integration of Theravada Buddhist philosophy in Sala Khunawut songs and their influence on Thai society. This dissertation is a qualitative research study, primarily analyzing data from documents and related research and collecting field data through in-depth interviews with 20 experts. The data were analyzed, synthesized, and presented descriptively. The research findings reveal : 1. The life and musical works of Sala Khunawut demonstrate his journey from a local music teacher in Amnat Charoen Province to becoming a renowned national composer and producer. His numerous musical works not only possess entertainment value but also reflect the thoughts, feelings, and identity of contemporary Isan society. This has led to the creation of a new cultural space for Isan country music to gain widespread acceptance. 2. Theravada Buddhist philosophy in Sala Khunawut songs is prominent and diverse. These principles include the three characteristics of existence, which convey the impermanence and suffering of life; the principles of karma and its consequences, which emphasize responsibility for one's actions; the Four Noble Truths, which reflect the confrontation and resolution of suffering; and the Four Sanghavatthu, which emphasize mutual support in society. These principles are not only presented straightforwardly but also conveyed in simple poetic language, deeply resonating with listeners. 3. Theravada Buddhist philosophy is integrated into Sala Khunawut songs, which have profound influence on Thai society, reflecting aspects of life, such as love, family ties, the struggles of rural people seeking work in the big city, or economic hardships. These songs not only tell stories of life but also serve as a means of connecting Buddhist principles with real-life experiences, making the art of singing and playing a powerful social tool. 4. New knowledge called the "S.O.N.G MODEL" Model: S = Spiritual Inspiration refers to songs that inspire spirituality, encouraging listeners to be aware of impermanence and be ready to face suffering with wisdom. O = Opportunity for Better Life refers to songs that emphasize the value of karma and its consequences, driving people to develop their quality of life meaningfully. N = Nurturing Faith refers to songs that nurture faith in the Triple Gem and morality, linking the community's shared beliefs. G = Guardianship of Culture refers to songs that protect and preserve culture, perpetuate Isan traditions and ways of life, allowing them to coexist with modern society stably.

ดุษฎีนิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์ 1) เพื่อศึกษาชีวิตและผลงานบทเพลงของสลา คุณวุฒิ 2) เพื่อศึกษาหลักพุทธปรัชญาเถรวาทในบทเพลงของสลา คุณวุฒิ 3) เพื่อบูรณาการหลักพุทธปรัชญาเถรวาทในบทเพลงของสลา คุณวุฒิ ที่มีอิทธิพลต่อสังคมไทย และ 4) เพื่อนำเสนอองค์ความรู้เกี่ยวกับบูรณาการหลักพุทธปรัชญาเถรวาทในบทเพลงของสลา คุณวุฒิ ที่มีอิทธิพลต่อสังคมไทย ดุษฎีนิพนธ์นี้เป็นการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลจากเอกสารและงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องเป็นหลัก และการเก็บข้อมูลภาคสนามด้วยวิธีการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก ผู้เชี่ยวชาญจำนวน 20 รูป/คน เพื่อนำข้อมูลที่ได้มาวิเคราะห์ สังเคราะห์ และนำเสนอในเชิงพรรณนา ผลการวิจัยพบว่า : 1. ชีวิตและผลงานบทเพลงของสลา คุณวุฒิ แสดงให้เห็นเส้นทางจากครูดนตรีในท้องถิ่นจังหวัดอำนาจเจริญ สู่การเป็นนักแต่งเพลงและโปรดิวเซอร์ที่มีชื่อเสียงในระดับประเทศ ผลงานเพลงจำนวนมากมิได้มีคุณค่าด้านความบันเทิงเท่านั้น แต่ยังสะท้อนความคิด ความรู้สึก และอัตลักษณ์ของสังคมอีสานในห้วงเวลาร่วมสมัย จนสามารถสร้างพื้นที่ทางวัฒนธรรมใหม่ให้เพลงลูกทุ่งอีสานเป็นที่ยอมรับในวงกว้าง 2. หลักพุทธปรัชญาเถรวาทในบทเพลงของสลา คุณวุฒิ มีความเด่นชัดและหลากหลาย ทั้งหลักไตรลักษณ์ที่สื่อถึงความไม่เที่ยงและความทุกข์ของชีวิต หลักกรรมและผลของกรรมที่ย้ำถึงความรับผิดชอบต่อการกระทำ อริยสัจ 4 ที่สะท้อนการเผชิญและแก้ไขทุกข์ ตลอดจนสังคหวัตถุ 4 ที่เน้นการเกื้อกูลกันในสังคม หลักธรรมเหล่านี้ไม่เพียงถูกกล่าวถึงในเชิงตรงไปตรงมา แต่ยังถูกถ่ายทอดด้วยภาษากวีที่เรียบง่าย ทำให้เข้าถึงใจผู้ฟังได้อย่างลึกซึ้ง 3. บูรณาการหลักพุทธปรัชญาเถรวาทในบทเพลงของสลา คุณวุฒิ ที่มีอิทธิพลต่อสังคมไทย ที่มุมของวิถีชีวิต ไม่ว่าจะเป็นความรัก ความผูกพันในครอบครัว การต่อสู้ของคนชนบทที่เข้ามาหางานทำในเมืองใหญ่ หรือความทุกข์ยากจากสภาพเศรษฐกิจ บทเพลงเหล่านี้มิได้เพียงบอกเล่าเรื่องราวชีวิต แต่ยังเป็นสื่อที่เชื่อมโยงหลักธรรมเข้ากับประสบการณ์จริงของผู้คน ทำให้ศิลปะการร้องเล่นกลายเป็นเครื่องมือทางสังคมที่ทรงพลัง 4. องค์ความรู้ใหม่ที่ได้เรียกว่า “S.O.N.G MODEL” โมเดล S = Spiritual Inspiration หมายถึง บทเพลงสร้างแรงบันดาลใจทางจิตวิญญาณ กระตุ้นให้ผู้ฟังตระหนักถึงความไม่เที่ยงและพร้อมเผชิญความทุกข์ด้วยปัญญา, O = Opportunity for Better Life หมายถึง บทเพลงเน้นย้ำคุณค่าของกรรมและผลของกรรม เป็นพลังผลักดันให้ผู้คนพัฒนาคุณภาพชีวิตอย่างมีความหมาย, N = Nurturing Faith หมายถึง บทเพลงหล่อเลี้ยงศรัทธาในพระรัตนตรัยและคุณธรรมความดี เชื่อมโยงความเชื่อร่วมของชุมชนเข้าด้วยกัน, G = Guardianship of Culture หมายถึง บทเพลงทำหน้าที่คุ้มครองและรักษาวัฒนธรรม สืบสานขนบธรรมเนียมและวิถีชีวิตอีสานให้ดำรงอยู่ร่วมกับสังคมปัจจุบันได้อย่างมั่นคง
